Superb cuisine, excellent service, and comfortable accommodation, make Housemartin the perfect base from which to explore this spectacular region. Furnished and styled for ultimate comfort, the 12 en-suite bedrooms each have queen sized or single beds with percale bed linen, and all open onto private verandah's. Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, homemade biscuits and rusks, and muscadel and port are provided in all rooms, and in winter, bathrooms are heated underfoot, and mohair blankets and electric blankets are available.

Internationally known, Christina is a Maitre Chef de Cuisine whose School of Food and Wine in Durban has the accolade of being one of the top training schools in the world. The Plough Restaurant, situated in the centre of De Rust is owned by Bill and Christina Martin, and specialises in South African cuisine with Christina making use of seasonal and organic produce wherever possible.

A stay at Housemartin is about relaxation - stroll around the beautifully landscaped garden, filled with an array of mature fruit trees and an abundant selection of birds, or soak up the sun around the heated swimming pool. Long before the village was established in the 1900's, De Rust had already been a place to rest and relax before challenging the route through the Swartberg Mountain Range. The area is malaria-free, safe with a very low crime rate and fantastic climate - beautiful sunny winter days with cool nights.

The town itself is peaceful and tree lined with excellent examples of late 19th century architecture. The area offers numerous walks and hiking trails, birding trips, scenic drives through the Swartberg, cycling, and tours through the wine route. Housemartin is 35km from Oudtshoorn allowing you to also visit this well known and popular town. Here you can visit the Cango Caves, Ostrich Farms & Wildlife Farms.
