Ever since the Elewana group took over Serengeti Migration Camp and gave it a thorough makeover, this lodge has been in contention for one of the north's best. Its 20 chalets are enormous wood and canvas constructions. They have wrap-around viewing balconies and, during migration periods, wrap-around wildebeest and zebra.

The rooms are sumptuous and grand with swollen leather armchairs, cotton linen and luxurious en suite bathrooms with twin vanities and free-standing Victorian tubs. The main lodge comprises the restaurant – Peter and Anita were restaurateurs in their former life – bar, lounge, swimming pool, sun deck and a small gift shop. Built with a light footprint, everything is raised on stilts with the added plus of excellent views across the famous Serengeti plains.

Nature's Greatest Wildlife Show

To witness one of the greatest natural spectacles on earth is a privilege. To witness that spectacle in luxury and total isolation makes the privileged look positively serf-like. Serengeti Migration Camp is in the northern reaches of the Serengeti National Park and a veritable pit-stop for the millions of wildebeest and zebra that traipse past in June/July and October/November. The lodge is in a river valley overlooking the 'siringet'. Game-viewing is high on the agenda here and the region is rife with lion and leopard and East Africa's plains game.
