Surrounded by a working coffee plantation and facing Africa's fourth highest peak, the Arusha Coffee Lodge is a comfortable and serene start to your safari in northern Tanzania. Large private chalets dotted about the plantation have a distinct coffee-flavoured theme: mocha wood, latte fabrics and cappuccino soaps; and of course the aroma of a coffee-grinder. The rooms have split-level lounges with wood-burning fireplace and a large balcony overlooking the plantation and Mt Meru.

If your itinerary allows for it, there's plenty of relaxing to be done in this tranquil setting. Opt for a lazy breakfast in your room, laze by the large pool, read in the lounge or pamper yourself in the salon. The restaurant has some repute with a combination of traditional and standard international dishes.

On the outskirts of Arusha in the far north of Tanzania and minutes from the domestic airport, Arusha Coffee Lodge offers excellent bookends for your African safari. The approach is lined with tall trees and your chalet is surrounded by a verdant quilt of coffee bushes and the snow-capped Mt. Meru creates a picturesque backdrop.
