Overlooking an ox-bow lagoon in the swampy Linyanti floodplain, the rustic exterior of King’s Pool lodge belies its supreme luxury. The nine tented and thatched suites – connected by raised walkways – are enormous and overlook the lagoon from a private deck with its own plunge pool. Each suite, built on a teak deck, has a large bathroom with double vanities, double shower, outdoor shower, a separate lounge area and a private sala.

The main lodge - with open sides, thatch roof and deck overlooking the lagoon - has a large dining area, a bar and lounge and a swimming pool – in case you get tired of your own. With rivers littered with elephants and buffaloes, plains and marshes scattered with lions and hyenas, the Chobe region is one of the best wildlife destinations in the world. The Linyanti Concession covers 125,000ha of African wilderness and the game viewing is nothing short of phenomenal.

Safari activities include game drives, underground hides, water safaris, sunset cruises and guided walks. The hides offer fascinating close-ups of the animals and it’s safe too – you can peer down a great bull elephant’s trunk without him knowing. Huge herds of elephant move in during the dry winter months and lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and wild dog live in the area thanks to the large herds of antelope, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, large antelope and smaller plains game. Birdlife in the riparian regions is spectacular with many rarities and large flocks.
