d'Ouwe Werf Description

Established in 1802, d’Ouwe Werf is South Africa’s oldest existing inn and has defined hospitality and fine dining for centuries. The inn consists of 31 en-suite bedrooms which are individually styled with antiques collected over the years. Modern facilities, and staff who pride themselves on their friendly, personal and professional service, make each visit an enjoyable and memorable one.

d’Ouwe Werf has 3 room types spread over 5 buildings. The rooms either overlook the beautiful landscaped courtyard and garden, or Church Street. No two rooms are the same but there are enough similarities to classify the three types. All rooms have airconditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, M-Net, fridges and fully appointed bathrooms. Each category has both double and twin rooms.

d’Ouwe Werf : Wining & Dining

The Restaurant is regarded as one of the culinary landmarks in Stellenbosch with traditional dishes such as Bobotie, Smoorsnoek, Biltong Pâté and Cape Brandy Pudding being choice examples of South African cuisine.In addition to the extensive traditional menu, a variety of lighter dishes is available, including Continental Cuisine.
Breakfast at d' Ouwe Werf consists of a selection of cereals, fruits, juices, yoghurts, cold meats and cheeses, muffins, toast and croissants, followed by a choice of warm dishes.

Tea and filter coffee are of course available. During the winter months, two fireplaces keep guests snug while the air-conditioning in summer provides a welcome respite from the African sun. Our extensive wine list makes it possible for d'Ouwe Werf Restaurant to be one of the few places where one can enjoy old Cape vintages often dating back to the early 1980s or a carafe chosen from a short list.
