The Franschhoek is a luxurious dream home that offers five-star comfort, privacy, tranquillity and personal security in the Cape Winelands. The Franschhoek has been designed with sumptuous home comforts, creating an elegant, sophisticated interior with a handsome mixture of classic and contemporary furnishings.

The Franschhoek features six luxurious en suite Superior Double Rooms. Each room has its own traditional Cape charm and opens onto a small shaded garden or patio for extra luxury and comfort. They are decorated according to one of three themes. Luxury accommodation facilities at The Franschhoek include a private safe, satellite television, air-conditioning, heated towel rails, under-floor heating, a laundry service and a pool.

A common feature of the The Last Word Resort Residences and hotels is the mosaic art created by the artists of Mandela Park Mosaics in Hout Bay. At The Franschhoek the mosaics are featured on the walls surrounding the swimming pool. A lavish breakfast starts the day and all local drinks are free.

The Franschhoek is an historic residence in the centre of what many regard as the most charming and picturesque village in the Cape Winelands. Elegantly restored in the Cape Huguenot tradition, The Franschhoek is right in the heart of what has become the utopia for food and wine lovers in the Cape.

The Western Cape is famous for its Winelands region. Not only is the region spectacularly scenic, the fertile soil and ideal weather patterns have made the ideal region from which to produce award-winning wines.

An ideal base from which to explore this splendid region, Franschhoek is a delightful village with many quaint arts and craft boutiques, galleries coffee shops and fine restaurants lining the main street.

Franschhoek was founded in 1688, when hundreds of Huguenots fled their French homeland, arriving by ship at the Cape of Good Hope. Many of them were given land by the Dutch government in a valley called Oliphantshoek (Elephant Corner) - so named because of the vast herds of elephants that roamed the area. Soon after they settled here, it became known as Franschhoek (French Corner).
