Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek

Résidence Klein Oliphants Hoek General Information

Built into and around an old mission station, Résidence Klein Oliphants Hoek has absorbed much of Franschhoek's history – and its quirky naming habits. This delightful eight-roomed guesthouse, on a quiet street five minutes' walk from the town's hub of restaurants, cafés, galleries and shops, has high ceilings, restored floors and beams and an unconventional variety of room styles and sizes.

Fitted with collected furniture and decorated with bold colours and clean lines, all rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and heating, and complimentary tea, coffee and wine. Though all are comfortable and spacious, we recommend the four suites: the eponymous Elephant Suite with private patio and plunge pool; the Jacuzzi Suite with rooftop hot tub; the romantic Missionary Room for a touch of irony with its open fireplace, private courtyard and plunge pool; and The Classroom, which also has a fireplace, a luxurious bathroom and a private garden.

Résidence Klein Oliphants Hoek – fine dining to round off the fine accommodation

The hospitality industry brought Camil and Ingrid to Franschhoek in 1999 by way of a 20-year worldwide detour and their experience and passion is evident in every detail. Camil recently moved his award-winning restaurant out of the Résidence Klein Oliphants Hoek and opened up a chi-chi seafood bistro called Bouillabaisse on the main road in Franschhoek. Kitchen theatre is what Camil calls it and the menu is an unstructured collection of tasters, platters and set menus prepared in an open plan kitchen.
