We frequently recommend that guests split their stay in South Africa’s Western Cape with a few days in Cape Town, before continuing to the Cape Winelands for two or three nights.
There is so much to see and do in the Cape Winelands, that we feel that it is so much worthy of more than a day trip. There are several exceptionally fine hotels in the Cape Winelands, and detailed below are just a few of our personal favourites. Several hotels are members of prestigious hotel groups such as Relais Chateaux, whilst others are independently owned and managed. Many of the hotels have fantastic spa facilities, allowing you to take full advantage of the spectacularly relaxing scenery and environment. Other hotels are particularly noted for their excellent restaurants and five star chefs.

Arguably the finest hotel in the Cape Winelands is
Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek. An all woman team ( from the owner, to the General Manager, to the Head Chef ) have for many years been winning hotel hospitality and service awards. Le Quartier Francais is located in the centre of Franschhoek and a perfect position for guests looking for a culinary experience. The hotel has recently added 4 new suites called the Four Quarters at Le Quartier Francais, these new hotel suites have taken hotel keeping in the Cape Winelands to a new level.
The Lanzerac Hotel in Stellenbosch has been a stalwart in the hotel industry for many years. Built around the original wine estate and its traditional Cape Dutch buildings, the hotel is set amongst beautiful grounds. The hotel has a spectacular spa facility and the large conference rooms mean that its often the first choice for product launches and meetings.
We find
Le Franschhoek Hotel in Franschhoek to be exceptionally good value for money. The hotel is located about 5 minutes from the centre of Franschhoek. The hotel is large but the rooms spread across the grounds, so you never really get the sense that your staying in a huge hotel. A large swimming pool, tennis courts, spa and several fine dining restaurants are a feature of the hotel. Rhino Africa has had many happy guests staying at this hotel.
The
Grande Roche Hotel in Paarl is also a member of Relais and Chateaux. This slightly ‘ Germanic’ hotel has recently undergone quite a face lift and the once austere rooms are brighter, funkier and fresher. The good at Bosmans is regarded as some of the finest in the Cape.
