Before Cape Town expanded and swallowed up the foothills of Devils Peak and Constantia Nek, Constantia was all wine country. Now it's all wine country, sprawling estates and exclusive luxury guesthouses of which Constantia Manor is one. Recently refurbished – out went the floral twee and period furniture; in came stylish lines, warm colours and velvet textures – Constantia Manor is surrounded by an acre of private garden and housed beneath a tremendous layer of thatch.

Constantia Manor has seven spacious rooms with private en suite bathrooms, king size beds and a calming combination of creams, chocolate browns and striking African original artworks. The living area is a stylish leather-bound den with a large fireplace and on warm days the large saline pool is a must. The guesthouse is a comfortable, convenient and safe home from which to explore the whole of the Cape Peninsula. In Constantia, amidst wine farms, orchards and oaks, you will be amazed to discover you are equidistant from everywhere. Chris and Sarah personally prepare your breakfast – included in the rate – and will arrange transfers, tee-off times, horse riding, mountain biking and hiking trails for you; not to mention recommend the best wine farms and restaurants to sample.

Constantia Manor is an excellent base if you have a car. From here, all of Cape Town's fabulous attractions are easy to reach and you don't have to bother with excessive city traffic. In the immediate vicinity you have some of the finest rosé wines in South Africa at some of the oldest wine farms; excellent restaurants, delis, and boutique shops; and the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens. Further afield, you can easily reach Simon's Town, Boulders Beach, Cape Point, Noordhoek, Hout Bay, Llandudno, Clifton and Camps Bay, the Waterfront, Cape Town city. Once you've done all that, the winelands of Paarl, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Durbanville await.
