Things to see and do in the Cape Town Waterfront

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is always high on the list of things to do in Cape Town.

The Cape Town Waterfront started its redevelopment in 1988 and is constantly undergoing refinement and development. In turn, turning the Victorian Port and Harbour into one of the worlds leading tourism destinations. The original docklands and its two harbour basins were built between 1860 and 1920 and the Waterfront is particularly notable for its outstanding buildings. These historic buildings have been carefully integrated into the more recent and modern buildings to create a development that is one of the finest in the world. The Cape Town Waterfront has often be likened to the harbour projects in San Francisco and Sydney, but none have Table Mountain and the City of Cape Town as such a beautiful backdrop.

Today the Waterfront magically combines a working harbour and a fantastic shopping and entertainment destination. Walking around you will be entertained by African Male Voice Choirs, Gum Boot Dancers and Mime Artists. The shops at the Waterfront sell some of the finest local and international brands. This is definitely the place to come and shop for jewellery and African Art work. Boats come and go from the harbour, including the Salt Stained Fishing Boats, Boats to Robben Island, Harbour Cruises as well as providing a mooring for luxury cruise liners.

Apart from wining and dining and shopping there are many things to see in the Waterfront. Why not take time out and visit the Two Oceans Aquarium. The Aquarium gives visitors a scuba divers view of the Cape Coast’s undersea wonders. Discover Sharks, Tuna, Yellowtail, Octopus and Penguins. Other attractions include the South African Maritime Museum, The Old Clock Tower, Chavonnes Battery and the Seal Landing.
