Cape Diamond Hotel General Information

Once in the rough, the Cape Diamond Hotel is in what is fast becoming Cape Town's revitalised downtown area. On the corner of a two tiny one-way streets, minutes away from Greenmarket Square, the Cape Diamond Hotel is close to many daytime attractions including the square itself, Company's Gardens, museums, galleries, and the thriving metropolitan centre. The 60 hotel rooms of this art deco hotel are neat, comfortable and feature open plan bathrooms (though the toilets are mercifully private), ceiling fans, local TV, and complimentary toiletries.

The Cape Diamond Hotel has a rooftop terrace with a jacuzzi and your view is over the city to Table Mountain on one side and across the harbour on the other. At ground level is a charming African-kitsch restaurant and bistro that serves some little-known South African classics with a creative twist. The entire hotel is non-smoking – although some rooms have open terraces where you can sneak a puff when nobody's looking – and there is a safe deposit at reception, which, incidentally is staffed with friendly and efficient hoteliers.

The Cape Diamond Hotel building was constructed in the 1930s to house an upmarket jewellery chain's HQ. The locale was then, as it is fast becoming now, the swanky-swish centre of a new world. The style is recreated throughout the hotel with the individually decorated accommodation featuring an eclectic mix of old and new styles - like flowing drapes that reveal a modern take on the en suite bathroom, and heavily quilted beds framed by art deco headboards.
