Acorn House General Information

Acorn House, high up in Oranjezicht – Cape Town's guesthouse suburb at the foot of Table Mountain, is a charming, owner-run guesthouse in a Herbert Baker-designed national monument. The unassuming façade is well-proportioned and sits squarely beneath the impressive expanse of Table Mountain. A lavender-lined pathway bisects the front garden up to the welcoming verandah entrance with wooden colonnades above which is a large wrap-around balcony with yet more wood in the form of a balustrade.

Inside is an ode to acorns and the early Cape era: beautiful wooden floors, oak motifs at every possible turn, and a delightful mix of antique furniture, Persian rugs, and lofty ceilings. Your accommodation hosts, Beate and Bernd, offer a genuinely warm welcome and have embraced the spirit of the Cape with their relaxed tempo and a burgeoning collection of local wines.

From the upper verandah that spans the width of the building, Acorn House overlooks Table Bay and the beautiful city of Cape Town lies in the foreground. An upmarket deli café has recently opened its doors across the road and the rest of Cape Town is an easy drive or taxi ride away. Bernd will recommend several excellent outings a fair portion of which will involve wine and food.
