Southern Right Hotel General Information

The Southern Right Hotel is a jovial and light-hearted hotel in Glencairn overlooking Elsie's Bay between the delightful seaside villages of Kalk Bay and Simon's Town. Built in 1904, the hotel was refurbished and restored in 2003 retaining much of its pioneer-day eminence. A large pergola-shaded verandah hovers above the front garden and offers an uninterrupted view of False Bay towards the Hottentots-Holland Mountains 40km into the distance

Southern Right Hotel has eight rooms with the original wooden floors, thick walls, deep-set windows, high moulded ceilings and splendid mountain or sea views. Interesting and exceptional fine art hangs on the walls of the hotel with African oils, iconic photo essays, Art Deco sculptures and Cape crafts on display. The Southern Right Hotel has a lively bar, often with live music, and a convivial restaurant and open-air terrace. Both are usually packed with locals – a sure sign of quality and value – and the seaside locale is rightly emphasised with hefty sloppy-finger seafood platters and fresh line fish.

The Southern Right Hotel has the beach in the front and a mountainous nature reserve out back; along the coastal drive are several charming villages crammed with fine restaurants and fascinating attractions. Activities range from lazy chardonnay-fuelled seafood lunches on the terrace to action-packed water adventure. Hiking trails lead you up into the fynbos kingdom of the Cape Peninsula National Park and there are several excellent – but testing – golf courses within a short drive of the hotel.
