Camps Bay Cape Town

Camps Bay is one of the most fashionable and popular places in Cape Town. Sidewalk bars and cafés spill out onto Camps Bay beachfront and the tanned and beautiful spend summer days in Camps Bay relaxing and unwinding on the beach. But forget swimming in the sea – even a dip will freeze your toes! The craggy faces of the Twelve Apostles, huge granite buttresses reaching down to the sea from the mountains behind, loom over the area.

Things to see and do in Camps Bay

Camps Bay is all about its spectacular beach. With the Twelve Apostles Mountain as its backdrop, Camps Bay is definitely one of the most fashionable places to see and be seen in Cape Town

Camps Bay is at its most popular during the summer months. During this time both local and international visitors come here to enjoy the beautiful beach as well as the numerous cafes, restaurants and bars that spill out onto the beachfront.

The beach is crescent shaped and is in our opinion the prettiest in Cape Town. The Benguela Current ensures that the water is icy cold, and therefore swimming is definitely for only the hardiest of individuals. Yachts come and drop anchor off the beach during ‘season’ creating an almost Mediterranean feel about it. Parasols and Loungers can be hired, and locals sell ice creams, cool drinks and snacks. “Granadilla Lolly to make you Jolly“ and “Water for your Daughter“ being the urban cries of the vendors !

There are a wide variety of clubs in Camps Bay. Party at the fashionable Ignite Nightclub where celebrities from Robbie Williams and Colin Farrell have been known to visit. Watch the sun go down at Paranga, Caprice or the Sand Bar – where sundowner cocktails are served on the beachfront road. Join the locals at La Med, a lively bar where rugby and cricket matches are screened, this large bar has spectacular views of the beach and parties until the very early hours of the morning!

There are some fantastic restaurants in Camps Bay. The most famous of which is Blues Restaurant. Established in the late 1980s, Blues is almost a South African institution. Blues serves fresh seafood, local dishes such as Venison and Ostrich, as well as international favourites. Open for lunch and dinner, prebooking is absolutely essential and we recommend that you try and request a table close to the window, from where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the beach.

In season everyone seems to want to stay in Camps Bay. Accommodation is limited and the development of hotels and guesthouses restricted. For the ultimate in Camps Bay chic – we recommend renting a villa. This affords you the opportunity to stay in some architecturally spectacular homes with all the modern conveniences. Ranging from simple 1 bedroom apartments, to extravagant 5 or 6 bedrooms Villas, there is a self catering option to suit most requirements and budgets.
