The Chitwa Chitwa Experience in Pictures

March 6, 2013

Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Reserve stands out among other luxury safari lodges in the Sabi Sand, like the giraffe it’s named after – neck above the trees.

The bold art pieces, sculptures and interior design of the lodge were put together by co-owner Maria Brink, who has a lifelong career in  international fashion, luxury jewellery and art. While modern, the lodge still exudes a strong, traditional African feel that combines the masculine and feminine. We found ourselves almost sleepwalking around the place from suite to suite, lounge to bar area, bush lunch to boma dinner, almost hypnotised by the pieces, the textures, the colours, the lights…

African art combines with contemporary elements to create a cultural but modern ambiance

We had to share these photographs of the lodge and the surrounding wilderness and wildlife, compliments of Chitwa Chitwa, with you. They really capture Chitwa’s personality, that magical and rare giraffe with its neck poking out of the Sabi Sand.

Chitwa Chitwa is located in the north of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which forms part of the vast Greater Kruger National Park Area. The nearest airport is Hoedspruit, which receives daily flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town. From here you are transferred by light aircraft or road. The lodge is a five to six hour drive from Johannesburg and makes a suitable self drive destination.

Ingwe is the Shangaan word for the leopard, respected for its combination of speed, agility, stealth, and strength. The elusive leopard is luckily a common sight in the Sabi Sand region.
