Going Green

Our Work with Heritage

Responsible Tourism

At Rhino Africa we believe in Walking the Talk. And while we concentrate our efforts on wildlife conservation and community upliftment, we are also conscious of the day to day impact of our business on the environment.

Not only are we an environmentally conscious and progressive company, but clients will be supporting a number of conservation and community upliftment projects by booking with Rhino Africa.

We work in collaboration with the Heritage Environmental Management Company (preferred partner to Green Globe for sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands) and have committed to their Green Business Plan. This is a clear endorsement that Rhino Africa is dedicated to environmentally responsible operating standards. We have acquired GOLD accreditation from the Heritage Environmental Management Company, have a look out our certification here.

Tourism in Africa needs to be sustainable, but sustainable tourism is not just about being green – it’s about ensuring a long term future for African tourism based on partnership and community benefit. Read the Rhino Africa sustainable vision statement here and read our green procurement policy here.

We encourage our suppliers such as Mount Nelson Hotel, The Cape Grace and MannaBay to get accreditation through Heritage and GreenLine (a Heritage initiative) thereby ensuring that we align ourselves with suppliers who share the same environmentally conscious philosophies. If you want to walk with the Rhinos, you will first need to verify your sustainability initiatives.

Relationship with the Heritage Environmental Management Company

Rhino Africa together with the Heritage Environmental Management Company has formed a partnership to create an ethos of environmental responsibility and sustainable development with its preferred partners. Heritage provides third-party certification of environmental compliance and, in assessing Rhino Africa Safaris’ partners, visitors are assured that member lodges and hotels are managing and monitoring all environmental elements of their business operations.

By supporting certified properties, visitors actively participate in reducing the footprint of environmentally sensitive areas in Africa and in uplifting communities.

Heritage offers independent certification of Rhino Africa Safaris’ preferred hotels and lodges by ensuring that member properties have a formalised programme to manage both their environmental impacts and performance.
